Potato rice

  • Cooked Rice - 1/2 cup

  • Potato - 1 no.

  • Onion -1 No.

  • Cumin seeds - 1/4 tsp

  • Channa dal -1 tsp

  • Hing- 1/4 tsp

  • Turmeric - 1/2 tsp

  • curry leaves - 1 small sprig

  • Sambar powder - 2 tsp

  • Oil - 1 tbsp (I used coconut oil for flavor)

  • Ghee - 1 tbsp


1. Pressure cook rice and keep it aside to cool down completely.

2. Wash the potato well, Peel and chop it. (Peeling is an optional step.)

3. Meantime, heat oil in a pan, Add Cumin seeds, Channa dal and saute onions till it turns brown, add chopped potatoes and close it with lid. Sprinkle some water to get soft but not soggy. It will get cooked in the steam.

4. Add sambar powder and keep sauteing it at intervals. Add salt, turmeric powder and hing. Simmer till the potatoes turns out roast.

5. Finally, add the rice, ghee and combine well. Simmer for 2 minutes and sprinkle the curry leaves.

6. Serve with curd or papad of choice.
