Channa Sandwich

  • Bread (any bread of choice) – 2 no.s

  • Kabuli channa – 1/4 cup

  • Onion, chopped – 1 no.

  • Tomato –

  • Cumin seeds – 1/4tsp

  • Black pepper – ¼ tsp

  • Chopped cilantro – 1 tsp

  • Garam masala- ½ tsp

  • Butter– 2 tsp

  • Salt- as required


1. Soak the channa overnight and pressure for 4 whistles.

2. Heat butter in a kadai, mix chopped onion, tomatoes, jeera, salt, pepper, garam masala and keep it ready. Add channa and give a gentle mix.

3. Grease the bread with butter. Top it up with vegetable-channa mixture. Note- kabuli channa can also be mashed and mixed to make uniform spread.

4. Place another slice now and press it evenly with hand or spatula. Don’t press too hard.

5. Grill the sandwich or place it on tawa until done.

6. Serve the sandwich with sauce or green chutney.

Nutrient highlights: Whole wheat bread is good in complex carbohydrates and fiber. Kabuli channa is a good protein, iron source, contains phytochemical, an antioxidant. It iis an essential carbohydrate source and provides calories. Pepper and jeera aids in digestion.
