Get Rid of Stretch Marks- Try these tips!!
No doubt that pregnancy stretches our belly region. Stretch marks are caused by changes in the elastic tissue that lies beneath the skin. They may be pink, reddish brown, purple, or dark brown, depending on individual’s skin color.
Research has shown that stretch marks can be genetic and especially if you are pregnant at young age, you are more likely to get for stretch marks. Other reasons can be:
1. rapid weight gain during pregnancy,
2. if you carry twins or multiples.
What can be done to get rid of it?
Stretch marks gradually fade after pregnancy, although they never totally disappear and so is the skin texture. Some self remedies to help reduce your stretch marks are:
Eat well – Good nutritious diet takes care of good skin. Include fresh fruits and vegetables in your diet every day. Hence healthy skin has minimal stretch marks. Vitamin A- Fat soluble vitamin present in orange colored fruits and vegetables like carrot, sweet potatoes, yellow pumpkin is great source of carotenoids and is known to contribute to overall skin health.This might increase the suppleness of skin and keeping healthy.
Coconut oil/ sesame oil- The age old remedy has seem tremendous benefits by topical application of these oils around the tummy post pregnancy due to their healing properties.
Aloe vera - Natural Vitamin E source- a topical skin application from pure aloe vera have shown benefits by reducing stretchmarks.
Replenish with fluids - Drink 6-8 glasses of water a day at regular intervals and add fresh juices rather than canned and bottled ones. Restrict carbonated drinks.
Keep a check on weight – As mentioned earlier; let your weight gain be gradual. Rapid weight gain can increase skin elasticity thereby making it difficult to reduce stretch marks.
Exercise - This is known to improve and tone the muscles pre and post pregnancy. If you have not started your exercises, this is the time to go for it.
Vitamin E is a great antioxidant source and produces tremendous skin benefits. Go for fistful of nuts and dry fruits along with other home remedies to reduce the stretch marks. Understand that there is no clear evidence with any creams, lotions and oils that claim to overcome stretch marks!!
